Volksluxus was founded in 2008 by Michael Steger. Now his friends, a group of craft-based artists (mainly goldsmiths) continue his work.
Michael Steger (*1968 +2017) was a professional gold- and silversmith (Diploma 1994/ Fachschule für Glas und Schmuck in Neugablonz) and teached since 2008 the arts and crafts of silversmithing in his Studio “Volksluxus”, in Berlin. Developing metal costumes and masks Michael Steger developed a link between metal handcraft working and fashion, film, theater and performance arts. One of the outcomes of this experiment were professional engagements for Fashionmakers like Vivienne Westwood, and Labels like Tony Wack (Seoul) and Hermes (Paris) in collaboration with Guillaume Ariaud.
Collaboration – Projects: “Silverbowls” & “Extruded Silverbar” in Cooperation with the artist Simon Starling (Miami Art fare 2013 and Art Basel 2015), “Crystal Wombs and pregnant Hearts” in Cooperation with the artist Keith Edemier at Gallery Neugerriemscheneider (Berlin, 2012). His last work was a 4m huge Minotaurus-mask out of brass made for the dance performance “my icarus complex” by Troels Primdahl.
