Filigree with Susanne Matsché
Beautiful and as light as a feather – jewelry from fine silver wire
Twisting, spinning, rolling – light jewelry from fine silver wire
An introduction to the technique of delicate silver wire ornaments

In the filigree technique, fine wires form the starting material. By connecting the many strands, amazingly strong, light pieces are created.
During the four days of the course, we will first learn the basics of this traditional jewelry technique: making the decorative wires (twisting, winding, rolling), alloying special powder solder according to an old recipe, arranging the fine filigree, and finally soldering with a bushy, soft flame.
Using just a variety of small elements, filigree offers a spectrum from leaves and garlands, decorative stone settings, to abstract, textile-like details. We build up the pieces step by step in quite a few layers by soldering with powder solder. In the course, we work with fine silver wire, which is so wonderfully easy to work with because of its softness.
The unusual approach of this technique is exciting and inspiring: in the wide spectrum of opulent detail and lightness there is a lot of room to play, experiment and improvise, as well as to integrate what you have learned into your own design language.
Basic knowledge of goldsmithing is recommended.
